Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the vicinity of the Kaixinling Coal Mine of the Zhiduo County, Qinghai Province. It was named by the Wuli Coal Prospecting and Reconnaissance Party under the Northwest China Coal Prospecting Administration in 1956, and was first cited by Yin Zanxun (1958) in the Additional Enlarged Edition to the "Regional Stratigraphic Chart of China (Draft)". Contains a lower Nayixiong Fm and an upper Qamarniu Fm).


Lithology and Thickness

Clastics and Coal. Composed of carbonaceous shale, siltstone, sandstone, limestone and coal seams. Its thickness is over 1255 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Uncertain contact with the underlying Kaixinling Gr (its uppermost unit is the Zhageyong), where there are missing such sedimentary strata as those of the Capitanian and lower Wuchiapingian Stage.

Upper contact

Regional extent

Distributed in the areas of Zhaliwaco-Mugeco, Kaixinling, Zhaqing Country and Dongmaolong.

Fossils

Yields Brachiopods such as Oldhamina, Squamularia, Leptodus, Neowellerella, Hemiptychina, Enteletina, etc.; Plant fossils (phytolites) such as Lobatannularia, Neuropteridium, Ptychocarpus, Lepidodendron, Gigantonoclea, Gigantopteris.
